What does PMJJBY cover?
PMJJBY is a one-year renewable term life insurance scheme. An admissible claim on the insured member’s death provides ₹2 lakh to the eligible nominee or claimant, subject to the policy rules.
- Death from any cause is within the scheme’s scope, subject to the lien period and other conditions.
- For new enrolment or rejoining, non-accidental death during the first 30 days is excluded. Accidental death is not subject to this lien period.
- This is life insurance, not a loan, savings deposit or hospital-expense reimbursement.
- There is no maturity or surrender payout. Surviving the policy year does not produce a cash return.
Who can join?
Check the institution’s current requirements before authorising payment.
- An individual aged 18 to 50 years with an eligible account at a participating bank or post office can join.
- Give consent for enrolment and premium auto-debit; complete the declarations and KYC through the institution.
- Enrol through one account only. Several accounts do not create multiple ₹2 lakh entitlements under PMJJBY.
- Existing members may renew up to the scheme’s age-55 limit, subject to premium payment and applicable conditions.
How to enrol through your bank or post office.
Use the institution where you hold your eligible account. Online availability depends on that institution. Visiting this website does not activate insurance.
- Check your age and account eligibility. Request the current rules and consent form.
- Complete your personal information, nominee details, declarations and auto-debit authorisation accurately.
- Keep sufficient funds for the premium and submit through the institution’s authorised channel.
- Obtain an acknowledgement; confirm the premium debit, insurer, cover start date and renewal arrangement. Retain copies for your family.

Make your nominee details easy to find.
Tell your nominee where the enrolment acknowledgement is kept. Ask the bank/post office how to correct or update a nomination.
- Record the nominee’s name, relationship and other required details accurately.
- If the nominee is a minor, ask about the required appointee or guardian details.
- Keep the policy acknowledgement and premium-debit record accessible to the family.
- Provide identity, account and nominee documents only to the authorised bank/post office or insurer. Do not upload them here.

Keep the cover active each year.
The standard insurance year runs from 1 June to 31 May. A previous enrolment acknowledgement alone does not prove that current cover is active.
- Maintain adequate balance before the institution’s annual premium collection date.
- Check that the premium was debited successfully and confirm active cover.
- Cover can end at the scheme’s age limit, on account closure or when insufficient funds prevent renewal.
- If cover lapses, ask about rejoining requirements, the cover start date and the applicable 30-day lien period.

How the nominee or claimant can begin a claim.
Contact the branch or post office linked to the insured member’s enrolment promptly after the death. The insurer examines the claim; this portal cannot approve a payout or promise a settlement date.
- Request the current PMJJBY claim-cum-discharge form, insurer details and document checklist.
- Prepare the death certificate or other acceptable death proof, nominee/claimant identification, account details and any further documents required for the circumstances.
- Submit the form and evidence through the designated bank/post office or insurer process. Retain an acknowledgement and copies.
- Follow up using the claim acknowledgement. For a dispute, use the institution’s grievance process and request written reasons or missing-document requirements.
Good questions. Clear answers.
Is PMJJBY a loan or cash assistance application?+
No. It is term life insurance. You do not request a loan amount or receive money merely by enrolling.
Does paying ₹436 guarantee every claim?+
No. Active cover, the lien period, claimant eligibility, documents and scheme conditions must be satisfied. The insurer decides claims.
Can I enrol through TeluguGovtloanMitra?+
This page provides information only. Enrol and pay through your participating bank or post office’s authorised process.
Do I need to renew every year?+
Yes. Check the account debit and current cover status each year rather than assuming renewal succeeded.
Can I get extra cover using two accounts?+
Participation is limited to one bank or post office account per person. Duplicate enrolment does not multiply the benefit.
Will I receive money when the policy year ends?+
No maturity or surrender benefit is payable. The benefit is for an admissible death claim.
